Strain Gaging

Amphion offers strain gaging services to determine material stress due to static and/or dynamic loads. We are able to bond strain gages to a wide range of test surface materials, perform data acquisition (both via direct connection or wirelessly) and identify strain and stress, determine weak points, and/or validate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models. Our equipment allows us to acquire data from up to 128 separate channels with any combination of axial and rosette strain gages at sample rates ranging from 10 to 2000 per second.

We have successfully completed a diverse range of strain gaging projects including but not limited to the following:

– Applied strain gages to the existing support structure of a pulp and paper mill’s batch digester in order to determine the maximum axial stresses during a full batch cycle to aid in the design of a new support structure. During the implementation of the new support structure, strain gaging was again utilized, to ensure equal stress and loading between the support legs.

– Applied strain gages to a large forging press in order to determine axial and principal stresses to validate an FEA model which will be used to predict fatigue life.

– Applied strain gages to an automated gantry system, collected strain data wirelessly, and used the data for the stress and fatigue analysis, and to compare the measured strain/stress data with an FEA model for validation.
